He wrote in his Facebook post: “People of Sengkang, thank you for your friendship and support. I’ll continue to serve the community in whichever way I can.”

The Party announced the appointment of three new Branch Chairs of Sengkang GRC on Mar 27, 2022. They are: Ms Theodora Lai Xi Yi (Sengkang North), Assoc Prof Elmie Nekmat (Sengkang Central), and Mr Ling Weihong (Sengkang East). Dr Lam Pin Min, Branch Chair of Sengkang West, will lead the PAP Sengkang GRC team.

Comrade Amrin will join fellow outgoing Branch Chair Comrade Raymond Lye Hoong Yip in seeing through the transition for the PAP Sengkang team to continue serving our Sengkang residents. Comrade Ng Chee Meng will be the Advisor to the PAP Sengkang GRC team.

“I hold him in high regard”

Comrade Amrin also further described his friendship with Prof Elmie Nekmat, saying that they both went to Tampines Junior College and even met up for a run at Sengkang Riverside Park yesterday (Mar 26).

“I hold him in high regard. An accomplished academic, recently tenured, and now Assistant Dean of Communications and New Media, NUS Arts & Social Sciences Faculty. He’s a grounded, hands-on academic,” he wrote.

Comrade Amrin also highlighted his successor’s passion for helping people in the community, especially in the area of digital wellness and inclusion.

“He’s active in the community, putting what he learns to help others, translating to classroom teaching. He’s passionate about digital wellness for young families, digital literacy for seniors, and greater protection of vulnerable groups and children from online harms such as cyber-bullying.”

“Dr Elmie Nekmat is taking over me as People’s Action Party Branch Chairman, Sengkang Central. I’ve known Dr Elmie for some years now. In fact, we went to the same college – Tampines JC. I hold him in high regard. An accomplished academic, recently tenured, and now Assistant Dean of Communications and New Media, NUS Arts & Social Sciences Faculty. He’s a grounded, hands-on academic. He’s active in the community, putting what he learns to help others, translating to classroom teaching. He’s passionate about digital wellness for young families, digital literacy for seniors, and greater protection of vulnerable groups and children from online harms such as cyber-bullying. Dr Elmie helps various charities such as AMP and Pertapis. And serves on many boards such as National Library, Sports SG and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. He’s good at multi-tasking as any father of four young girls will tell you. We met for a run at Sengkang Riverside Park on Sat (26 March). Please do say hello to him when you see him run in Sengkang. People of Sengkang, thank you for your friendship and support. I’ll continue to serve the community in whichever way I can.”
