To help lower-income residents ease cost of living pressures, the East Coast GRC team managed to raise more than S$500,000, through donations from corporate partners and community supporters.
The good news was announced at the first ever East Coast Community Day on Jul 24 at Singapore Expo. Attended by more than 200 residents, the event had activities like go-karting and was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, Minister Maliki Osman, Senior Minister of State Tan Kiat How for Communications and Information and National Development, and MPs Ms Jessica Tan and Ms Cheryl Chan.
In his Facebook post, Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat thanked those who contributed to this worthy cause, saying: “I was also heartened by the generosity of our community — we raised $500,000 to support the students, seniors and the vulnerable in East Coast.”
SMS Tan added that the funds will also help East Coast residents who many need more support to meet challenges such as the rising cost of living.
The Straits Times reported that fund-raising efforts are continuing, and those who wish to donate, can pledge their donations to the Kampong Chai Chee CCC Community Development and Welfare Fund Community. The total amount will then be matched by contributions from the Tote Board.
