Bukit Panjang residents, rejoice!

Two flyovers, which form a traffic interchange at Senja Road and the KJE, are slated to open soon to give residents better access to the Kranji Expressway (KJE).

Beside Bukit Panjang folks, another person is ecstatic with the imminent opening of the flyovers.

Enter MP for Bukit Panjang Mr Liang Eng Hwa.

You see, the construction of both flyovers were proposed by Mr Liang a decade ago.

He told The Straits Times: “About 10 years ago, when we saw HDB’s plans then to ramp up housing in Bukit Panjang town, we were very concerned about the heavy traffic congestion that’s to come.”

He added that there were only two main accesses and exits for residents.

Mr Liang appealed to then Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew and eventually the Government agreed to build the flyovers, with the project going to Quek & Quek Civil Engineering for S$113 million in Nov 2017.

An MP’s commitment

A lot of times, the work and advocacy PAP MPs put in may not yield immediate results. But if you think about it, how often does one enjoy instantaneous results in life?

Probably not often.

The reality is this: changes take time, especially for a multi-million project like the pair of flyovers, and seem uncertain.

But what’s certain is the PAP MPs commitment when it comes to serving Singaporeans and Singapore – even if it takes 10 years to bear fruit.

And this is also true: it takes tenacity, perseverance and focus to turn changes into reality.

Just ask Mr Liang.
