Govt to present individuals & teams directly fighting Covid with special state award

21/08/2022

In recognition of the sacrifices made by individuals and teams who participated directly fighting Covid-19, the Government will present a special state award called the Covid-19 Resilience Medal to them.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced this in his National Day Rally speech on Aug 21.

He commended healthcare workers, public officers, private companies and NGOs and community groups and countless individuals for their help in fighting the virus.

“Your actions were critical in our fight against Covid-19. The nation is grateful to all of you,” he said.

He also joked about the design of the medal.

“We will add a special indication to the name and the insignia, to show that the medal was presented for service fighting COVID-19 – maybe two red lines on the ribbon!”

He added that those who made exceptional contributions will receive existing state awards such as the Commendation Medal, the Public Service Medal, and the Public Administration Medal.

The awards list will be announced at the end of the year, with the award ceremonies happening next year in person.
