Supporting local businesses, and keeping towns free of pests. PAP MPs are here to help!

05/06/2025

Apart from Meet-The-People Sessions and tending to resident’s issues, our MPs have been looking after our towns and neighbourhoods in other unique ways. Stepping up to help when residents face unusual setbacks or emergencies is in the PAP DNA.

Goh Sze Kee: Doing right by Bake N Bites

New MP Goh Sze Kee (Mountbatten SMC) was up and early to show her support for the hardworking Old Airport Road hawkers behind Bake N Bites this past Sunday morning (1 Jun).

“If you are in the area and have a soft spot for muffins, cheesecakes and other confections, you may want to swing by. They are very much open,” said MP Goh, in the hopes that her social media post would drive more business to the stallholders, Christopher and Christina.

An Opposition politician had made a claim that Bake N Bites had closed down, without checking his facts. Unfortunately, this led to the stall suffering a more than 70 per cent drop in their business, as the stallholders told reporters.

“I have met Christopher and Christina even before the GE [General Election] and was concerned about the recent rumpus over their business,” added MP Goh. “All this came out of the blue and their only concern was to set the record straight.”

Bake N Bites opens Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 8pm. Their cold muffins are a speciality. Of course, as MP Goh also said: “Please do check out all the other delicious stalls too while you are here!”

David Hoe: Looking out for a Clementi shopowner after a fire

Fire broke out this past Friday night (30 May) in a Clementi shop lot, just across the road from bustling Clementi Central. MP David Hoe and the town council team were soon on the scene.

“Residents and the shopowner were understandably worried, but the situation was well managed by our SCDF [Singapore Civil Defence Force] officers,” said Mr Hoe.

“What was particularly heartwarming for me was how the fire was first spotted by one of our town council staff at 9.50pm. He made the necessary calls promptly, which allowed the fire to be contained quickly.”

“As the shopowner runs an academic enrichment centre, we had to consider what would be best for the students the next day. The responsible thing to do was to postpone classes so that the smoke could fully clear,” continued MP Hoe.

“We also discussed how best to communicate with the parents, and agreed that the most reassuring message would be that, in the interest of student safety, the centre would be closed for the day.”

As of writing, “everything is back to normal”, added MP Hoe. “And the shopowner has shared that he hopes to continue serving students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Clementi.”

Darryl David: AMK Town Council working to rid the town of rats

MP David was spotted around his Ang Mo Kio-Hougang ward last month, working with Town Council staff to cull rats.

“I joined the Ang Mo Kio Town Council this week for their regular culling exercise and to date, we’ve got 17 rats so far — and operations are continuing across the town,” he said (23  May).

MP David is Vice-Chair of the Town Council.

“Keeping our estates safe, clean, and comfortable is always a top priority,” he continued.

MP David began calling Ang Mo Kio home 47 years ago. His priority as Vice-Chair is to keep the Town Council running well, and to build up community spirit as an AMK MP.
