“WE KEEP volunteering because we believe in our Party mission,” said Comrade Tan Ee Tiong when Petir interviewed him about receiving a Commendation award at the PAP Awards and Convention 2025.
“To build a fair and just society where the benefits of progress are spread widely to all.”
Comrade Tan’s 20 years of service to the Party include long years in Opposition-held Aljunied GRC, where he and fellow stout-hearted volunteers make sure that residents have help from the PAP whenever they need it.
Over the decades, he has served Aljunied residents, organising tour excursions, writting appeal letters to the authorities and visiting homes all over the neighbourhood in his party whites.
Often, Comrade Tan is the one holding the line when residents contact the PAP’s Eunos Branch. “I receive quite a number of calls directly,” he said, adding that he helps as far as he can, “irrespective of what day they call us.”
This record of unstinting service means that Comrade Tan has helped many residents in Aljunied. He is constantly reminded that the mission is to serve all Singaporeans, regardless of affiliation or support.
“They might support the other side, but somehow or other we will touch their hearts. I just show empathy; just help.” said Comrade Tan.
He is a difficult position politically, but ultimately the Party’s mission transcends politics. Comrade Tan is mindful to uphold the trust which Aljunied residents place in him and the PAP.
“One of the most important things to do is to keep residents’ secrets,” he shared with Petir. “Especially for seniors, or single mothers, who might have very personal financial or family issues. When they share your problems with you, keep it with you.”
Looking forward, Comrade Tan has a message for his fellow PAP activists in Aljunied.
“Just be humble,” he said. “Continue our hard work and outreach for Aljunied residents.”
“One day, we will win Aljunied back.”
