The People’s Action Party Awards and Convention honours PAP members who have served the Party and fellow Singaporeans with distinction. Petir profiles four of these exemplary members.

“The Party leadership has no intention of giving up Sengkang. Why should we on the ground abandon the mission?” Comrade Gilbert Quek immediately responded when Petir asked him why he has tirelessly served his Sengkang GRC neighbours for 15 years.
“My fellow branch members and I live here. We have a stake in the community,” he continued about his efforts in the Opposition-held ward. “We do not assume the situation of every resident will stay status quo. Their lifestyle may spiral down. So every time we meet, even if it’s the same resident, we ask ‘Hey, how are you? Anything to feedback? Just tell me.’.”
Across Sengkang, Comrade Quek has been a stalwart, making a difference for residents in need. He has hosted digital safety workshops for mums and dads. He has set up classes to teach kindergarten children about unity in diversity.
He and his team have worked with agencies like the Precious Active Ageing Centre and the SASCO Senior Citizens’ Home to provide Sengkang seniors with more fulfilling golden years.
At the PAP Awards and Convention 2025, Comrade Quek will receive the Silver Award for his contributions.
He has a message for our PAP comrades fighting their battles in other Opposition-held wards.
“Just stay united in our mission. Just keep believing; continue to serve your neighbours with an open heart.”
“More volunteers are stepping forward, because they believe in the PAP’s common cause,” he added. “There’s something worthwhile to fight for.”
