Lee Hong Chuang, MP for Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC, organised a special Mother’s Day shopping trip for 40 families from Hong Kah North.
Mr Lee, who oversees the Hong Kah North division, told Petir that his team partnered with local footwear brand DMK to host the May 30 shopping excursion. As a special treat, mothers and daughters got to pick out shoes and bags for themselves at DMK’s Raffles Place outlet.
It was a way to spread Mother’s Day cheer with participants, including families experiencing challenges who are supported by the PAP Hong Kah North branch.
“Although Mother’s Day has passed, we want to take this opportunity to appreciate all our mothers,” Mr Lee said. “This shopping trip is our small way of showing appreciation for mothers’ love, sacrifices, and dedication to their families.”
Branch activists organised this Mother’s Day shopping excursion for residents for the first time, he shared. Last Christmas, his team took children to select toys at Toys”R”Us.

Residents appreciated the chance to select shoes and a bag of their choice.
“It’s not every day that you get a Mother’s Day outing and get to choose a prize that you want,” said Sharon, a platform worker. “In my job, I walk a lot, so heels are a no-go. I chose something comfortable—a pair of sandals. We’re all going home as very happy mothers.”
Shanti, another participant, brought her daughter along. Both were pleased with their selections.
“Thanks to this Mother’s Day shopping spree, I got myself a pair of pump shoes and a bag,” said Shanti, while her daughter expressed delight over the clean and trendy look of the shoes she chose.
Eileen Goh, Chief Creative Officer at DMK, and her sister Sophia Goh, Chief Operating Officer at DMK, explained that since their mother founded DMK in 2000, the company has focused on supporting Asian women’s journey to look and feel good. This inclusive mission extends beyond fashion. DMK sponsored the event.
“This year at DMK, we’ve been focusing on how we can support mothers on that journey,” Ms Eileen Goh said. “One of the biggest ways we can do so is by giving back to the residents at Hong Kah North.”
Mr Lee said his team looks forward to creating more meaningful opportunities to support and appreciate families in Hong Kah North in the future, including bringing 400 residents to a movie screening.
“Seeing everyone enjoy themselves and create happy memories together made the day truly rewarding.”
