A reply to Lee Hsien Yang’s lies: PAP Assistant Secretary-General Desmond Lee

14/05/2024

Mr Lee Hsien Yang says ( his FB post of 12 May) that his wife, Mrs Lee Suet Fern was not dishonest in her dealings with the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

That is false.

The Court found Lee Suet Fern guilty of misconduct unbefitting an advocate and solicitor and suspended her from practice for 15 months.

Both a Disciplinary Tribunal (DT) and the Court said that Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Suet Fern had lied under oath. The DT said that they had both been “downright dishonest”.

And why is that so?

The couple procured the execution of the late Mr Lee’s last will with “unseemly haste”, making sure it was executed overnight, within 16 hours.

They did so, while cutting off Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s long-time lawyer. Mr Lee Kuan Yew was 90 years old at the time, and in frail health, having been hospitalised for several weeks.

Mrs Lee Suet Fern “acted with complete disregard for the interests” of the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and had “blindly followed the directions of her husband [Mr Lee Hsien Yang], a significant beneficiary under the very will whose execution she helped to rush through.”

Mr Lee Hsien Yang went so far as to tell the Disciplinary Tribunal that “his public statements could be inaccurate because they are not sworn statements”. Meaning he might lie unless he was under oath.

In July 2023, I had set out the facts and some comments.
