GE2025: “Continuity, and Fresh Perspectives”: Minister Chan Chun Sing leads 5-member team for Tanjong Pagar GRC

24/04/2025

Minister Chan Chun Sing will lead a 5-member team to contest Tanjong Pagar GRC. New candidate Foo Cexiang and incumbent MPs Joan Pereira and Alvin Tan join him.

Rachel Ong, who helms the Telok Blangah ward, will now join Tanjong Pagar GRC. She was previously part of the West Coast GRC team.

Eric Chua, another Tanjong Pagar GRC MP, will contest in the new Queenstown SMC, while Melvin Yong will defend his seat at Radin Mas SMC.

Together, they make up the PAP team serving residents in the three constituencies that comprise the Tanjong Pagar family.

Foo Cexiang: Provide our children with a good start in life

Former civil servant Foo Cexiang, 39, has served in various ministries, including home affairs, education and transport, over a 15-year career.

Driven by a desire to provide our children a good start in life and build more connected communities, Mr Foo put his ideas into action while in the civil service.

At the Ministry of Education, Mr Foo championed the ‘Knowing Asia’ thrust, which expanded the Humanities curriculum to equip students with a deeper understanding of the ASEAN region.

As a father of three young children, Mr Foo is also keen to develop programs to help build social and emotional strength in our children.

“I hope to work closely with young parents and have more programs and activities in the community. So that the children have a place to come together to live and play,” said Mr Foo.

Chan Chun Sing: Tanjong Pagar is a very special place

Tanjong Pagar GRC is often associated with founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew, an MP in the constituency for nearly 60 years.

Walking around Tanjong Pagar, one can see the history and development of Singapore.

“You will see old shophouses and the different generations of flats,” said Minister Chan.

“It reminds us how much we have come as a country. It also inspires us how much more we want to do to take our country forward.”

GE2025 comes at a tumultuous time in world history.

“But I think we have what it takes to overcome all these uncertainties and challenges,” added Mr Chan.

For 60 years, the PAP has steered Singapore forward. With a strong mandate, it will continue to do even better for the next generation of Singaporeans.
