During a rally on Monday (28 April), new candidate Valerie Lee spoke passionately about the struggles of our sandwiched generation, Singaporeans who find themselves caught between raising children and being caregivers for their aged parents. Ms Lee is a candidate for Pasir Ris-Changi GRC.
In her speech, Ms Lee acknowledged that while support systems, ranging from baby bonus cash gifts to the proximity housing grants, have been enhanced, more can be done to support “the quiet middle who may not qualify for assistance but are still struggling”.
Better infrastructure and jobs support for S’poreans
Minister Indranee Rajah, the anchor minister for Pasir Ris-Changi GRC, was also at the rally.
She shared that her team would continue to serve residents with the same dedication and passion as Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean, who was the incumbent MP for 28 years.
“We will build on all that he has done.”

For now, residents of Pasir Ris-Changi GRC can look forward to more linkways and barrier-free access. The opening of four new MRT stations will also improve connectivity to the rest of Singapore.
Besides improving infrastructure, incumbent MP Desmond Tan shared that he would continue to help Singaporeans secure jobs in this tough economy.
“We will strengthen SkillsFuture to improve support systems and create better pathways to good jobs.
“I will fight every day to strengthen job security for all my fellow Singaporeans,” said Mr Tan.
