Mr Sudhir Thomas Vadaketh has made groundless accusations against former President Halimah Yaacob, the Singapore Government and the People’s Action Party. (Link)
He hopes to drive a wedge between Mdm Halimah and the government.
But our respective positions on Gaza are consistent. PM Wong spoke about the conflict at a press conference last week (May 30) (Link). Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Assoc Prof Faishal Ibrahim has also given his personal views (Link).
Sudhir did not consider these or similar viewpoints in his post. Instead, he pointed to other commentators not currently in government or parliament as alleged proof that the PAP was “hanging Halimah out to dry”.
This is false. Picking and choosing which sources to bolster his argument is disingenuous.
Singaporeans are bound to have disagreements on controversial matters like the conflict in Gaza.
But we must not let our disagreements harden into deep divisions.
Time and again, we have said no to divisive politics and slanders. Time and again, we have said politics must stop at the water’s edge.
May this always be the case.
