Building towards the Budget, the PAP Climate Action Group brainstorms solutions for sustainable living

21/01/2026

The PAP Climate Action Group (CAG) is working with climate activists to create solutions for Singaporeans to live sustainably.

The CAG brought together 30 climate activists from groups like The Circle for Human Sustainability and consultancies like biophilic.sg at an event last week entitled Sustainability Living: Creating Zero Waste and a Circular Economy.

MPs Poh Li San (Sembawang West SMC), David Hoe (Jurong East-Bukit Batok GRC) and Hany Soh (Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC) helped facilitate discussions with the groups, brainstorming solutions to everyday sustainability questions, such as what business practices are needed to steer Singapore towards a circular economy, and how households can reduce food waste.

The solutions put forth included empowering local food rescue groups, cash incentives for separating rubbish and reducing single-use plastics.

PAP Climate Action Group MPs Poh Li San, Hany Soh and David Hoe speak with climate activists about sustainable living solutions

“Many of my group members today have actually shared some very innovative ideas,” said MP Soh, who is co-Chairperson of the CAG’s Sustainable Living pillar. “We are about a month away from our annual national Budget debate; we hope to gather feedback and see how we can use it to speak up for a more sustainable Singapore for Singaporeans.”

The Sustainable Living pillar focuses on building climate-centric partnerships between the government, the private sector and the community.

The CAG will bring ground feedback to the halls of Parliament

The CAG will focus on climate community building efforts in 2026, with more workshops and feedback sessions like Sustainability Living.

“This year, we will do more of such topic-based group discussions, like this one around waste and the circular economy. They are where we can bring together communities who truly care about the environment, about good ideas and projects, to share their expertise,” said MP Poh, co-Chairperson of the CAG.

“A size like this — about 30 people or so — would be a good size where we can all have that time and space to have deeper discussions.”

“Some of these ideas, we can either roll out into projects on the ground, the community, or even some proposals,” she added. “Provide some of these good ideas to the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment to consider changing Singapore’s policies and legislations.”

“It is our role to bring ground feedback to Parliament, and to the various Ministers, and to share it with them,” said MP Hoe, who is the other co-Chairperson of the Sustainable Living pillar. “Inject your ideas. We will continue to champion how we can all make our sustainability vision possible.”
