PSA: Free ITE workshops from now till end Oct 22

14/07/2022

Good news to those who want to pick up new skills.

From now till the end of Oct 2022, the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) is offering 30 free workshops. Called 30 Gifts for the Community, this initiative is part of the celebrations to mark ITE’s 30th anniversary and a way for the institute to give back to the community.

Prospective learners can pick up new skills from a myriad of courses: from piloting drones, cooking, to developing mobile applications and making soap.

Itching to learn something? You can sign up at Central Singapore Community Development Council. ITE said that those who wish to sign up for any of the 30 workshops can look out for publicity on the courses by the respective district partners over the next few weeks.

Continuous learning

In a statement to the media, Minister of State for Education and Manpower Gan Siow Huang said that ITE has played a key role in helping to drive Singapore’s economic success by training and equipping the workforce with the right technical skills.

Indeed, Singapore’s success hinges on a local workforce with the relevant skills.

The importance of continuous learning cannot be emphasised enough.

Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said in a Straits Times interview this year that the pace of change has accelerated tremendously due to advancements in technology and new jobs that didn’t exist just a few years ago such as UX (user experience) design is now the norm.

It is vital that we get this right. Thus, you would have noticed that education and lifelong learning is one of the six pillars of Forward Singapore, led by Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and the 4G leaders.

So there’s no better opportunity to start than with the free courses by ITE.

After all, who doesn’t like free and beneficial things?
