GENERAL ELECTIONS one day, Meet-the-People Sessions (MPS) the next. The hustings are over, but the real work continues for PAP MPs.

Here are some snapshots from their MPS sessions on Monday.

“First of many evenings spent listening, learning, and serving,” posted new MP Dinesh Vasu Dash Monday evening (5 May).

“Today is our first Meet-the-People Session (MPS) in Bedok— a space where our Bedok residents can share their issues and know that someone will try their best to assist,” he added.

“Our Bedok PAP team and I will follow up closely to ensure each concern is heard —and acted on,” he continued.

Bedok residents can be assured of this bold action; MP Dinesh has spent his life serving the public. He spent 28 years in organisations like the health and defence ministries.

Recently, he was the CEO of the Agency for Integrated Care, where he raised the quality of care for Singapore’s seniors.

Another new MP, Foo Cexiang, is also hitting the ground running. His MPS is currently at the void deck of B/26 Jalan Membina.

“I was most heartened to see children accompanying their elderly parents, parents coming with their young children, and residents who are concerned for others in their community,” said MP Foo, who is himself a father of three.

“As I shared with one resident — I know you are fighting not just for yourself, but also for your loved ones,” he continued. “I am determined to do my utmost to help all our residents, and to connect our generations here in Tg Pagar-Tiong Bahru.”

MP Foo is a man who believes in giving children a good start in life. At the Ministry of Education previously, he championed programmes to build social and emotional resilience in them.

It was a long night for MP Lee Hong Chuang over in Hong Kah North.

“After a long night at my first Meet-the-People Session (MPS) in Hong Kah North, I attended a wake and took some time to walk around the estate and a few coffeeshops to observe and understand what goes on during these hours,” he posted

Being a volunteer and serving the community is second nature for MP Lee, having been at it for over 30 years. He knows how to develop community support in order to help his residents.

MP Sun Xueling has been a constant and welcome presence in Punggol West for the past decade.

“Resumed Meet-the-People Session at Blk 308C Punggol Walk this evening. Grateful for the trust of our residents and the steady support of our volunteers,” posted MP Sun briefly after the session. “We will do our best for you.”

Punggol West residents have cost-of-living support over the years, with MP Sun launching discount grocery programmes and school help for middle-income and sandwiched families.

Holland-Bukit Timah GRC: Vivian Balakrishnan continues serving Cashew

The walkway leading to the PAP Cashew branch was packed this past Monday night.

“Glad to resume the Meet-the-People-Session tonight,” posted Minister Vivian Balakrishan as his MPS session drew to a close just before midnight on Monday. “Thank you to all our tireless volunteers!”

Minister Balakrishnan has watched families grow (and children in the ward grow up) and thrive ever since he started serving the ward in 2006.

“We are deeply honoured to have your trust and support. Thank you! This reaffirms our commitment to serve, make sure no one is left behind, and to prepare ourselves for the future,” he posted the night of Polling Day

“To our residents, we will keep delivering on our promises, and placing you at the heart of everything we do,” he added.

That sentence sums up the mindset and work ethic of PAP leaders old and new: It is a great privilege to accept this renewed mandate from Singaporeans, and we will make sure that our MPSes are places where fellow Singaporeans can come for help.
