December is a time for celebrations. With Christmas and the New Year around the corner, PAP MPs and volunteers have been busy bringing festive cheer to the heartlands.

From twinkling light displays to community gatherings, this is the time when Singaporeans from all creeds and races come together to embrace the spirit of giving and togetherness.

Here’s a roundup of what’s happening in our neighbourhoods.

Lighting up the neighbourhood

While Orchard Road remains the go-to destination for Christmas lights, Singaporeans do not need to travel far from home to soak in the festive atmosphere.

The festive spirit is alive and shining bright in the heritage district of Joo Chiat, said MP Goh Pei Ming (Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC) when he officiated the Christmas Light-Up in the neighbourhood, organised by the Katong Joo Chiat Business Association (KJCBA).

Over at Bukit Gombak, the town centre is once again transformed into a winter wonderland.

Residents were also treated to games, stage performances, a lucky draw and a dose of fake snow during the annual Christmas Light-Up.

“So heartening to see young families out enjoying the night together, soaking in the joyful atmosphere,” said MP Low Yen Ling (Bukit Gombak SMC).

Embracing the season of giving

For MP Desmond Tan (Pasir Ris–Changi GRC), Christmas is a time to embrace the spirit of giving.

“I joined our residents for the bi-weekly grocery distribution and Christmas party. It truly warmed my heart to see families and neighbours come together, filling the venue with joy and laughter,” shared Mr Tan.

As part of PCF’s Sparkle Gift of Love initiative, MP Jackson Lam (Nee Soon GRC) joined children and their parents as they browsed the shelves at Kiddy Palace to pick out a special gift of their choice.

“A big thank you to our educators, volunteers and partners for making this meaningful initiative possible,” said Mr Lam.

Similarly, Christmas came early for children in Bishan East–Sin Ming.

“It was such a joy watching the children choose their own presents at the toy fair. Each child also received school starter vouchers to help them begin the new school year with greater confidence and assurance,” shared MP Elysa Chen (Bishan–Toa Payoh GRC)

Strengthening our community spirit

With the Winter Solstice coinciding with Christmas, a group of residents in Sembawang decided to celebrate both.

“When residents take the time to connect, it builds familiarity and a sense of belonging that turns neighbours into friends,” said MP Ng Shi Xuan (Sembawang GRC), who joined the group for a potluck block party.

Meanwhile, at Tanjong Pagar, the fun and games at Christmas are certainly not limited to the young.

“Our seniors were thrilled to play eSports,” remarked MP Foo Cexiang (Tanjong Pagar GRC). As for what their favourite games are, it’s Just Dance and Counterstrike 2, added Mr Foo.

Finally, at Mountbatten, residents got to experience an entire Christmas Village.

Magic show, craft booths, a Santa station and even a bouncy castle. “There was something special for everyone,” shared MP Gho Sze Kee (Mountbatten SMC).

At its heart, the festive season is about coming together. By spending time with one another and looking out for each other, we strengthen the bonds that make our heartlands caring, welcoming and resilient — not just during the holidays, but all year round.
