The PAP Sengkang East branch recently started their Kopi on the Move series of events. The first event was held earlier this month on a Saturday morning (16 Apr).
More than 50 Sengkang East residents enjoyed a lively Zumba Gold workout at Rivervale Drive. They had a relaxed chat and kopi session afterward, with fresh brews sourced from the local Coffee Hive outlet at Rivervale Mall.
Kopi on the Move events will be popping up around Sengkang East in the coming months. Residents can take part in a different fun activity each time.
Branch Chairperson (BC) Bernadette Giam and her volunteers will be there as well, listening when residents share their opinions and issues.
“I have gone table to table, and some of them really have good feedback to give us,” said BC Giam. “This is something that we hope to move around Sengkang in a mobile format, so that we can engage more residents.”
“Also to give our volunteers a chance to do what they’re really passionate about, which is to serve Sengkang residents,” she added.
Fostering conversations that matter, all around Sengkang East
Alongside initiatives like a food rescue fridge and successfully pushing for a new underpass at Rivervale Shores , Kopi on the Move is another way PAP Sengkang East branch continues building community bonds.
“The idea came about when my young son came across a group of fitness enthusiasts doing high-intensity workouts. He was grooving to the music, and they invited him to join in,” shared BC Giam.
“I thought that a similar event would be a nice way to gather Sengkang residents together,” she added.
Branch volunteers went door-to-door around Sengkang East, and spread the word on social media.
“I wanted to bring our residents out together more,” said branch volunteer Rena Lo, as she was setting up the tables and speakers for Kopi on the Move. “All of us stay in Sengkang; I wanted everyone to feel their share of community spirit.”
“We wanted a different way to engage residents. To get to a level where people can participate actively,” said Keegan Chua, fellow Sengkang East volunteer. “So we made the Kopi on the Move event template able to foster conversations that matter.”
True to its name, Kopi on the Move events will pop up elsewhere in Sengkang East in the coming months. They will be accessible and fun for all ages. Follow PAP Sengkang East’s social media for all the details, as well as for other work they do for the neighbourhood.
